Playing Rules

  • General CHA (Canadian Hockey Association) rules apply for all situations not covered in the Ice Men rules.

  • All teams require 5 players and a goalie to start a game. If a team doesn’t have a goalie, they may use another team’s goalie. Other arrangements for goalies must have the President’s approval.

If the puck, after hitting the goalie’s helmet/mask goes in the net without hitting anything else (including the goalie), a goal shall be awarded. Otherwise, a faceoff in the same end zone will take place.

  • All regular season games will have a winner. Games ending in a tie will result in a 3 player shoot-out, then sudden death shoot-out if needed.

If tied in the final playoff series for the Ice Men Cup or Medal rounds a sudden death period will be played (If time permits.) For the shoot-out, the Home Team shall decide if they want to shoot first or last. No previous shooters may participate until all eligible players have shot.  Any players still penalized or penalized at the end of the game, may not participate in the shoot-out at all.

  • Referee decisions are final and games may not be protested.

  • Double Minor penalties (4mins) shall be assessed, at the discretion of the referee(s), when a foul is considered severe and/or a minor injury occurs such as a small cut from a stick/elbow or when a player is clearly shaken up from a severe body check.
